No, I haven’t read this book all the way through. And I haven’t even used it recently. While organizing my books (somehow they become un-alphabetized and un-categorized over time) I came upon this book. I purchased it back in pre-DVD, pre-world-wide-web days to help me figure out what would be interesting to rent. The cover claims 19,000 entries. Anyway, why I mention it now is that it’s getting tossed. In this day of the Internet, there are so many better ways to find movies. So here I am looking at this thing wondering how I could ever have used it effectively. The titles are ordered alphabetically by title, making it’s only real use to look up a movie I had in mind to rent. The only other way was to semi-randomly pick pages or browse hoping to find something that intrigued me. Having a Netflix with it’s extensive rating, recommendation and friends features or an IMDB with it’s exhaustive movie and television information, all searchable and browsable by a bazillion different methods is so much easier. And yet, there’s a 2007 edition of this video guide. And it’s ranked #1349 in sales on Amazon, which means a fair number of people are buying it. Why? I don’t understand. In any case, I’ll miss this book. Mostly cause I hate getting rid of any book, not because this book is really useful.
