I started blogging my books so I could remember what I’d read. I’m also finding it hard to remember when and where I’ve acquired my reading material as well. It’s not quite as important, but there are occasions when knowing would be helpful. So this is the first of periodic updates on additions to my To Be Read pile, the size of which I’ve lost count of again, but it’s probably nearing 400.
One note, if you’d like my take sooner than it would appear naturally, throw up a comment and I’ll consider moving the book to the top of the list. It could take months or years for me to actually read some of these otherwise, given the mountain already in the pile. But I’ll sacrifice my ordering for my readers. I give ’til it hurts.
I acquired all these items in the last week.
The first batch were ordered from Amazon. I used my $12 and change proceeds from the first two years of Amazon links on this site (lucrative I know) to knock the price down a little bit.
- Before They Are Hanged, Joe Abercrombie (see review earlier today)
- Transit Maps of the World, Marc Ovenden (in progress)
- A Lion’s Tale, Chris Jericho
- Red Seas Under Red Skies, Scott Lynch
- The Year’s Best Science Fiction: Ninth Annual Collection, Gardner Dozois editor
- The World Without Us, Alan Weisman
I also grabbed a pile of books from Michael’s Books‘ boxes of free books out front.
- Blood Will Tell, George Bagby (too enticing a title to pass up)
- Vanishing Ladies, Ed McBain
- Eighty Million Eyes, Ed McBain
- Midwives, Chris Bohjalian
- Introduction to Social Welfare Institutions 3rd ed., Charles Zastrow
Since I’m reading books at about the rate of two per week, it’s obvious that my pile is increasing in size. I’m not keeping up. Perhaps some day I’ll purge it, but not any time soon.
