There are two items of note.
First, if you care about such things, I’ve been re-doing the categories. Originally, I sort of made up my own categories drawn loosely from the Library of Congress Subject Headings. In practice, that didn’t work out too well. Then I started morphing the categories more to what you would find at your local Barnes & Noble or Borders. I’ve found a decent reference guide for that which has made doing that much easier. I’ve created new categories and have begun re-arranging categories, including moving books to new categories. The implications of this are:
- There is no top-level non-fiction category anymore.
- Eventually, none of the top-level categories will be
leaf-node
categories. In other words, all books will be categorized at the second level or lower. - I don’t really like how bookstores separate young adult titles. For the bulk of the stuff I read that falls under that category, I’ll be putting the titles under two categories: the main category and one catch-all
Young Adult
category to signify that the title is also meant for youth. For elementary age reading and below, that probably won’t work. But I doubt I’ll read or review such titles unless I become a dad, so it isn’t much of an issue. - If you’ve bookmarked a category, the link may no longer work. This may really only affect search engines.
Second, I intend to upgrade the site software to the latest version of Wordpress this week. There will likely be some down time. In addition, since I’ve modified some of the files by hand and didn’t keep notes on what I’ve done, it’s likely some things won’t work right once the upgrade is finished. I’ll try to fix them as I notice them. If you see anything broken after the upgrade, please email reading@kingrat.biz to give me a heads up.
And last, I bid welcome to all the new readers. I hope you like what you read. If you don’t, let me know. That’ll either provide me with some amusement or some good suggestions.
